Mental Health America has developed online screening tests that can be used by adults as a quick and private way to determine the experience of symptoms of a mental health condition. Many of us have used these types of online tests through sites like WebMD, Livestrong or perhaps specific condition sites such as the American Hearth Association to create a profile of our symptoms. B4Stage4 screening is similar to these tools but for the use of mental health.
A worry with any online screening is that an individual will self diagnosis and panic and there are many critics of online mental health screening because of that. So, I decided to take 3 of the tests to determine how well the questions were written, the results were given and what steps were introduced to me. I was delighted to find that the questions were not written in a fearful tone, the results only stated that I was experiencing the ____ symptoms but that it did not mean I was diagnosed and very clear and step by step instructions were given about what I should / could do next to get help.
As a skeptic, I was happy. I could see this tool as a great application for any Peer Supporter.
